All orders are roasted to order, processed and dispatched generally within 2 working days, having given the coffee time to de-gas.

We ship via Royal Mail Tracked 48 service with their aim to deliver to you in a further 2 to 3 working days after posting, including Saturdays. You will receive Tracking information by email when your parcel reaches their local distribution centre.

Orders £40.00 or less incur a £4.55p shipping fee. Orders over £40.00 (after any promotional discount) include free shipping.

Should you be unsatisfied with the quality of what you have received please contact  enquiries@primecoffee.co.uk within 7 days of delivery and we will endeavour to resolve the issue to your satisfaction. Please make sure you still have the original packaging which must be returned with the contents.

Any refund, if approved, will be refunded to your original payment method.

Please allow up to 14 days for the refund to be processed.

However, should you order COFFEE incorrectly or simply change your mind we will not offer a refund or exchange as we do not accept returns of perishable products which have been produced to order.

STORING YOUR COFFEE

    Beans

By the time your coffee beans are delivered they will have had enough time to de-gas and will be perfect for brewing, which is best done within 4 weeks and kept either in the re-sealable pouch that they are delivered in or an airtight container. Keep the coffee away from strong sunlight, heat and moisture (not in the fridge) and use before 4 months. It is OK to use the beans after longer periods, but like most foodstuffs they will start to lose their ‘edge’.

    Ground Coffee

Unlike the beans, ground coffee hasn’t got the same shelf life and needs to be stored much like the beans but enjoyed within two weeks for full flavour. Grinding the beans at home when you need to make your coffee is a far better way to keep the coffee fresher for longer.

THE JOURNEY
FROM COFFEE CHERRY TO BEAN

Coffee beans are actually the seeds found inside the coffee cherry, a fruit that flourishes on coffee plants. Turning these cherries into the beans we brew involves a series of precise steps: harvesting, processing, drying, milling, and roasting.

 

 


 
 

Harvesting

Fully ripe coffee cherries, usually deep red in colour, are picked, often by hand to ensure quality.


 

Processing

The harvested cherries need their seeds (beans) separated from the fruit. This can be done in two main ways:

  • Washed (Wet) Process: The cherries are pulped to strip away their outer skin and flesh, then the beans are fermented to remove any sticky residue before being washed and dried.
  • Natural (Dry) Process: The cherries are laid out in the sun and dried whole. Once dried, the shrivelled fruit is removed to reveal the beans inside.


 

Drying

Processed beans are dried further to reach a stable moisture content of about 11-12%, crucial for preservation and quality.

 

Milling

The dried beans, still encased in a protective parchment layer, are hulled to remove this coating. After that, the beans are sorted by size and density for consistency.


 

Roasting

Finally, the green coffee beans are roasted, unlocking the distinctive flavours and aromas recognised in your cup.

PEABERRY COFFEE BEANS

If you're passionate about coffee, you've probably come across the term “peaberry.” Despite common misconceptions, peaberry isn’t a separate coffee variety, it refers to a rare type of coffee bean that occurs naturally on all coffee plants, regardless of the variety.

What is a Peaberry?

Every coffee cherry typically contains two seeds, what we know as coffee beans. Occasionally, however, a cherry develops with only one seed. This single bean, called a peaberry, is rounder and smaller, resembling a pea. The specific cause behind this natural anomaly remains a mystery, with factors like weather, pollination, or plant nutrition suspected but unconfirmed. Peaberries are rare, making up less than 10% of total coffee production.

How are Peaberries Found?

There’s no way to tell which cherries contain peaberries until after processing. Once the coffee has been processed and milled, peaberries are discovered during sorting, a meticulous, labour-intensive process. For perspective, sorting through 1,000 pounds of green coffee might yield just 50 pounds of peaberries. This scarcity and the extra effort required to separate them means producers can offer peaberry coffee at a premium price, sought after for its unique character and flavour.
